About Us

Over 40 years ago, Deborah and Bruce Michel launched Michel Design Works, featuring beautiful paper gifts, such as books, journals, and stationary. From the beginning, we believed that our packaging was just as important as the gift itself. Deborah developed our own unique style, inspired by her lifelong love of French and English art from the 18th and 19th centuries. Her layering of multiple antique designs and her vivid color transformations lead to us establishing a stunning, often whimsical look that is always recognizable.

Michel Design Works began the transformation into the world of personal care products and fragrances when blogs and online photo albums threatened to make two of our best-selling products – elaborate keepsake journals and photo albums – obsolete. As Deborah explored her passion for fragrances, soaps, and lotions, we maintained our beautiful packaging and prominent status as a trendsetter in the gift-giving industry.

Preserving our brand’s reputation for affordable luxury, we sought out the top soap makers and fragrance houses in the world to provide our customers with triple-milled soaps that smelled as amazing as they felt. Next came lotions and then bubble baths. As we grew, we experienced a kind of customer excitement that we never witnessed with our paper products. They loved our luxurious, yet reasonably-priced items. So we continued to develop new products and lines while our brand and reputation continued to grow. Eventually, we began to receive requests from boutiques around the world, and, of course, we happily obliged. While we’ve stayed true to our roots and are still headquartered in the charming town of Katonah, NY, Michel Design Works is now a global brand.

Today, we’ve expanded our product lines into the home décor category, offering our distinct designs on everything from pillows and rugs to serving trays and paper napkins. The response from our customers has been overwhelming. They still come to us for that perfect gift, and they repeatedly return for more. With the launch of our consumer website in the fall of 2019, we celebrate our long history, but more importantly, we celebrate our loyal customers who’ve brought our products into their homes for several decades.

Our Logo

Our elephant logo perfectly encompasses the story of Michel Design Works. While elephants are known for their legendary memories, which tied in perfectly with our keepsake books, they also symbolize stability and wisdom, which has helped us build a successful business. We purposely created an elephant with an upturned trunk as it signifies good luck, something everyone would like to bring into their home. 


Can I modify or cancel my order after it has been placed?
Once you have clicked checkout, your order starts being processed. You may be able to change or cancel your order before it is dispatched for delivery. Can I include a gift message in my order?
Please follow the instructions during checkout to include a gift message. While we do not offer a gift receipt option, we do not include pricing information in any shipment so the gift recipient will not see those details.  At this time we do not offer gift wrapping.  

Do you offer gift cards?
Yes! You can purchase an e-gift card here.

How can I check the balance of a gift card?

What forms of payment do you take?
We accept most major credit card/debit cards along with Paypal, Apple Pay and Google Pay. We also accept Michel Design Works E-Gift Cards as well!

When will my credit card be charged?
Your credit card will be charged once your order has been shipped.


Shipping & Returns

What shipping options do you offer?
Orders made on can be shipped to all 50 U.S. States. We offer the following shipping options:

  • Standard: For orders placed by 2:00pm EST, delivery can be expected within 3 to 7 business days. Free shipping for orders over $35**!
  • 2 Day: For orders placed by 2:00pm EST, delivery can be expected within 2 business days.*
  • Overnight: For orders placed by 2:00pm EST, delivery can be expected within 1 business day.*

** Tax does not count toward order total. Orders received at our fulfillment center before 2:00 PM EST will ship that same day; orders received after 2:00PM EST should ship the next Business Day. Saturdays, Sundays and holidays are not considered Business Days.


Ground Shipping: Order before 2 PM EST on December 15th for delivery by December 25th.

Expediated: Order before 2 PM EST on December 21st for delivery by December 25th.

Overnight: Order before 2 PM EST on December 22nd for delivery by December 25th.

Do you ship internationally?
Unfortunately, at this time we do not offer international shipping.

Do you ship orders to multiple addresses?
We currently do not ship orders to multiple addresses.

Where can I find my tracking?
We will send your package’s tracking number in a shipping confirmation email once your order leaves our fulfillment center. You can also find a link to the tracking information on your Orders page in your account.

What is your return policy?

When can I expect my refund?
It takes our warehouse 1-2 weeks to receive and process your refund.


Can I buy products in my area?
Our products are sold in specialty retailers throughout North America and Canada. Please visit our store locator to find a store near you.

Do you do any animal testing on your products?
There is no animal testing done on our products.

Are your products gluten free? 
Yes!  Our products are gluten free.

The product I want is out of stock. When will it be available?
From time to time we do sell out of our favorite products. Always check out website regularly as we receive inventory on an ongoing basis.

Why are products discontinued?
As times change, Michel Design Works does occasionally retire collections. We are always creating new scents and launching new collections and products to inspire our customers. Continue to check out website for new product launches!

Loyalty Program

What is the Michel Design Works Loyalty Program?
The Michel Design Works Loyalty Program is our way of showing our appreciation to the loyal customers that have joined the MDW family. As a member, you earn points every time you shop that can be redeemed for exclusive discounts on future purchases. The program is free; simply shop like you always do — and get rewarded for it!

How does the points system work?
You earn 1 point for every $1 you spend. Gold members earn 1.5 points for every $1 (50% more) and Platinum members earn 2 points (200% more!).

Why join the Michel Design Works Loyalty Program?
• Membership is free.
• Earn a base rate of 1 point for every $1 you spend, and more when you qualify for higher tiers.

How do I join?
Good news! If you already have an account with us, you have been automatically enrolled in the Bronze tier of our Loyalty Program.
If you do not have an existing MDW account, you can click here to sign up. Enter the required information and you’re good to go!

How do I earn points?
Just make sure you're logged in before you check out, and the points from your purchases will automatically be credited to your member account.

How do I redeem points?
When checking out, use the “Choose your discount” drop-down menu to select how many points you would like to redeem for a discount. Then click the “Redeem” button and your discount will be added to your cart.  Please note that points and discount codes cannot be used together in a single purchase. 

When do my points appear in my rewards account?
Points will be credited to your account immediately upon completion of an eligible purchase.

Do all my purchases count toward my points?
You can earn points on all our products. However, gift cards, shipping charges, discounts from vendor coupons (or other similar discount coupons), taxes, and fees are not eligible for points.

How long are points valid?
Points will expire after one year of user inactivity – which means you have not earned or redeemed any points for an entire year. To keep your points, simply redeem some or make a new purchase!

When will I see my birthday bonus points?
Your birthday bonus points will be deposited on your birthday as our gift to you! There is a 30-day delay from your sign-up date, so if your birthday is within 30 days of the date you join, you will receive your bonus points 30 days from the day you sign up.

How do I leave a review to earn points?
After you make and receive your purchase, we will send you an email requesting a review for the products in your order. Once you click through the email and leave a review, the points will be deposited in your loyalty account. Please note that although it is possible to leave a review directly on one of our product pages, doing so will not earn any loyalty points.

How do I know when my points will expire?

What happens to my points when I return an item?
The points you earned on the returned item(s) are deducted from your points balance.

What happens if I return an item I bought using points redemption?
If you use your rewards points to buy something and then return that item, you will receive only what you paid in cash, plus the points you redeemed, refunded to use on a future purchase. If you originally purchased more than one item in your redemption transaction, you will receive a cash refund first, then points once all cash has been refunded.

Does my Loyalty Tier ever expire?
Our loyalty tiers operate on a “rolling year” basis: this means that a 12-month timer is activated once a customer enters a tier. For example, if you crossed the tier entry threshold on March 3rd, 2020, you would retain that tier until March 3rd, 2021.
