Welcome to Michel Design Works
About Us
Michel Design Works was started over 30 years ago by Bruce & Deborah Michel. Their very first product was an elaborate “memory book” called Our Country Diary, which we still sell today. It was and is a book where one captures daily events and it becomes a beautiful record of family life.
The elephant proved to be the perfect logo at that time. Although Michel Design Works has greatly expanded into Bath & Body, Home Fragrance and Home Decor, when Bruce & Deborah remember and celebrate all of their wonderful customers and the Michel Design Works history, it is even more fitting today!

A letter from Deborah
The Deborah Michel Collection

I’m someone who is guided by the senses—by sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell. That affinity is reflected in my personal life, from the way I decorate my house, to the flowers I grow in the garden, to the food I serve family and friends. And it strongly influences my work process as well.

When I consider a new design or product, I open myself up to possibilities. It might be a scrap of fabric or a delicate fragrance that inspires me, a brilliant array of colored leaves or a lyrical piece of music that influences me. I assemble an idea wall and then begin the orchestration process—adding, subtracting, and overlapping elements, changing colors, looking at things from different angles and at different times of the day. Along the way, I ask myself: What do these colors and textures say? What emotion does this scent conjure up? Have I achieved harmony in form and proportion?

It’s a challenging but ultimately rewarding way to work. I’m always happy with the results, and sometimes, I fall in love. A new product speaks to me directly, tapping into a deep affinity and personal connection. That’s what happened with the decorative pillows I created. I had a clear mental image of how they should look and feel, of how they could dramatically change the décor of my home—of any home. Because of that strong personal bond, I decided to establish The Deborah Michel Collection, with a focus on signature designs and luxurious products.

Other exciting new ideas followed. In home décor, I put together a collection of ultra-lux candles infused with perfume-grade scents, as well as an array of deliciously soft table linens in seasonal patterns and colors. In personal care, I created a range of rich, soothing hand creams and an irresistible selection of complex, memorable perfumes. Now I can’t wait to continue the journey, to discover what will speak to my senses next and lead to new additions to The Deborah Michel Collection.

Best wishes,
Deborah Michel
