Welcome to Michel Design Works
Letter from Deborah
I write this having just put the finishing touches on our Spring 2010 line. My studio is a mess, strewn with things I've gathered together over the past six months: Old postcards tacked to my walls with messages not scribbled, but written in penmanship so elegant I use it in my patterns. A collection of antique flower and bird prints whose colors almost seem to glow with intensity. Collected shells picked up during a shore vacation, a scrap of fabric from a Sunday flea market—objects filled with a sense of history, belonging, and possibility.
And then there’s my window. It looks out into the garden, and since March I’ve watched as the flowers emerged from the soil and blossomed, magical in their form, fragrance, and color —an endless source of wonder.
I’m not much for philosophizing —I think of myself as a worker bee— but I'm struck with the beauty of the stuff I trip over every day. I keep reminding myself to stop, see, touch, breathe... It’s an inspiring world.
Warm wishes,
Deborah Michel

Where We Work
Our offices are based partly out of a charming cottage adjacent to our Westchester, NY home. Our creative, production and operations teams are based here.
Our satellite office, located in Katonah, NY is home to our customer service and accounting departments.

We moved into our 200-year old farm house over 20 years ago, about the same time we started the business. It’s close to New York City, but seems like a million miles away.

We started working on the garden the first summer we lived here. Its beauty always astonishes me, as does the variety of birds, butterflies, and other insects the flowers attract. We grow vegetables nearby, and I’m looking forward to the day our newly planted orchard bears fruit.

The elephant is the company’s logo, so I thought this weathervane was the perfect Christmas gift for Bruce.
